Is it fully legal? I know, that it is technically possible, I have tried it. Tuesday, December 30, PM. Tobol, Is the Recovery CD the one which you received with the Toshiba laptop or is it a different recovery disc? If the recovery disc was for your particular make and model then you should be able to perform an image restoration with no problems. You shouldn't be required to use any product keys because manufacturers use an OEM SLP version which is tied to the particular system which is shipped.

Should you need for some reason to use a product key then use the one which should be located on the Certificate of Authenticity COA sticker on the bottom of your laptop. You mention an Academic Alliance. If not usually colleges have discounted versions of software they sell the bookstore for students. That worked for me. I've been trying to resolve this issue for a year not that I've really been trying it all day, every day, lol , and just today I said, let's give this thing another try.

Maybe there's something new to be found, and there it is, the flash update tool. Now I can finally put my second unit to the "road rig" and do some work with it. When my f stopped working, I bought an RME UFX from a friend for a great price, and let me tell you something, it has some brutally stable drivers! I can do everything now with that other system. I'm staying away from Mackie from now on, and I suggest you do the same.

Life is too short, and I'm too poor to buy cheep stuff with no long term support. You won't be able to use a sample rate above 96kHz. The GUI on the console looks the same as any version, but you just can't select a higher sampling rate. And as for the vista driver, I tried every possible setting combination on my win7 OS, legacy and no legacy drivers included, and the unit never worked properly.

I couldn't change the buffer size inside the project on the fly most of the times. And at times that I could do that, I could select only few buffer sizes. To make it more strange, the size settings changed from time to time, so I had to adjust it by small increments in order to find the spot where the sound will come out of the unit, and CPU overload meter stop saying overload. I'm back on XP with my units, and will make it my "road rig" with an old laptop and that's it.

Once again, thnx to you guys for help!!! You're awsome!!! If I drank alcohol, I'd buy you a bear! I have one unit with working card but cannot test functionality. Computer detects all inputs and outputs but have no idea how to use it.

It asks also for firmware upgrade. Now I would like to use it on my Win 7 computer. Haryy says use the vista driver but all i can find is the Windows 7, 5. Haryy you have that vista driver? For others like me who bought a used F: 0. I just turned the unit on for a few minutes and have the following observations.

The power supply seems to be a switching ps and emits a high frequency whine as it warms up it changes in pitch. Sometimes the unit turns on and does and automatic LED check where they all light up and turn off. Sometimes it does not until warmed up. The mic preamps are silent and clean! The instrument preamp feature work great too. All 4 outputs are available unbalanced at the insert jacks so a dead F makes a nice pre-amp regardless!

In win7, with F connected to a firewire port the recognition by the Mackie Win utility to search firewire bus for compatible hardware comes up empty.

I'll try in XP to verify the hardware works and then try the Vista drivers mentioned above to see if I can get it to work in Win7. When I eventually take it apart I'll clean the pots and check for cheap Chinese crap components in the PS China manufacturing is corrupt! Mackie F Firewire Vista Drivers. I had a look at release notes to identify the "Vista Version". It is 4. Here is a complete list: Version 1. What the heck. Here are the others for completeness. So far can't get it to be recognized by win7 or XP.

Tried 4pin and 6pin fire wire cables. The Fire Wire "Y" led on the F front panel will not light. I'll try a different 6 pin cable when I can get one. Windows 10 working fine with the vista driver! Same problem. Hi gearslutz. A while back i tried windows 7 out and it flashed the firmware on it's own without asking me. Took away my samplerates above 96kHz added a new tab and just started getting a ton of gitter - I think it's the clock losing sync with the OS or something that gives the bit cruncher.

Normally i would just swap sample rates and swap back to get rid of the gitter but omg i have to do it so much with this firmware. And it pisses me off i lost k because when you measure the card that was the best and most flat setting.

I tried setting up an XP for production and using that flash utility you guys supplied but got the same message saying - no compatible hardware detected. I see someone says to hold the ctrl button on your keyboard when you hit begin.

If i hold the ctrl button will it detect the hardware? If this works you get back kHz? Monday, September 1, PM. Hi, You cannot install Windows XP on your computer. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, choose the drive of your Windows installation and click Next 6. Tuesday, September 2, AM. I have to then turn off the pc and unplug it to be able to restart. Only problem is i have no disks as vista was already installed on the machine.

Saturday, December 27, AM. Wayne: If your machine is still under warranty, I'd suggest that you contact Acer for help and, quite possibly, repairs with your issue. Since the machine, from your description, stops POST at the Acer splash screen, instead of making it past that and on to either a BIOS error "operating system not found", for example or Windows error such as, but not limited to, a bootloader or OS file error , indicating that it isn't completing POST in the first place, you probably don't have a Windows issue.

As for not having discs: Acer should have provided you with a method of burning a recovery disc or disc set from within Windows.
